Summer Goes Home

Remember little Summer when she and Traveler arrived here on 11/8/09?

 

Here’s the picture I took for her adoption flyer back on 6/8/10.  Is that the same pony?  Really???

She’s a little over a year old and growing like a weed!  That’s Traveler next to her in that top picture… see how much smaller she is?  Now she’s the same height!

But most importantly, she’s still a big sweetheart that loves to be held and petted and will climb into your lap if you let her.  Which is why resistance was futile for Lawrence and his wife when they were here to ride Cinnamon and Thunder the other day.  Summer kept following them around wanting love and they couldn’t stop thinking about her.  So when I talked to them today and they said they wanted to adopt Summer as well, of course I had to say yes!

I can just see her being best buddies with that little mini and the donkey in no time!  What a lucky girl!

Thunder and Cinnamon Go Home

When Thunder and Lakota first arrived, they went out with the main herd since I knew they were healthy (just thin).  When Cinnamon and Genesis arrived, they went into the back pasture by themselves.  Within a couple of days, Cinnamon started popping over the fence to be with Thunder and Lakota, so I moved those two into the back with Genesis.  A few days later, Jolie Rose decided that she could also jump the fence and really REALLY wanted to be with the other four. 

A couple of months later, I moved all five back out with the main herd and put my old fogies in the back.  Lakota left soon after, leaving just Cinnamon, Jolie Rose, Genesis, and Thunder.  The four stuck together like glue, only allowing Maverick and Sadie to join their clique.

So when Terry and Lawrence decided they wanted to adopt both Cinnamon and Thunder, I was ecstatic!  Now the two can be together forever and live happily ever after.  :)

 

 

 

The two horses will have 47 acres and a huge barn to share with just a miniature horse and a donkey – lucky ponies!

I need you

Remember Farm Days at Tractor Supply last year?  We’ve been invited to participate again, this time in the Spring version on May 8th.   And since I really have nothing else to do, I said sure, I’ll be there.  With bells on. 

Would someone please shoot me now?

The first thing I had to do was find someone to feed the quarantine farm the morning of the 8th.   That was easier than I thought it would be.  Thanks, Michelle!

The second thing was to get Anne working on the flyers and handouts.   That was also easy.

Now comes the hard part… deciding which horses to take!  I only want to take horses that still need a home and I don’t want to take any of the Fairmont horses since there’s a chance they may still go back to the asshat that starved them.

So here’s a list of the potentials to take to Farm Days this year.  I’ve narrowed it down, but need help in making the final decision.   Traveler, Thunder, Mick, Quill, Cinnamon, Milo, or Maggie.  I can only take two, and I think I REALLY want to take Mick.  He’s turned in to such a hunk and I just love him like crazy.

Mick – 3yr old Quarterhorse gelding.  Can be sweet, but still a little shy.

 

Traveler – approx. 2yr old gelding mutt.  Absolute pocket pony who loves attention (and cookies).

 

Cinnamon – 8(ish) Arabian mare.  Very shy, but warms up to people quickly when cookies are present.

 

Thunder – 8yo TNW cross gelding.  He’s very friendly, but was only castrated five months ago and still thinks he’s a stud.  He’s very herd bound and may be an idiot when taken away to a strange place without Lakota.

 

Maggie – 2yr old QH filly.   She can be rather rude and I’m not sure I trust her not to bite little fingers when faced with so many cookies in one day.   And geesh, talk about a growth spurt!

 

Quill – 2yr old TB/Arab cross… maybe?  Very sweet and mannerly and would undoubtedly adore every little human that came to see him.

 

Milo – 3yr old QH gelding.  Sweet, mannerly, and not likely to take anyone’s fingers off.

 

So tell me… who should I take??  Please make my decision for me, I am completely incapable at this time. :)

Lakota and Thunder

The Fairmont saga is still continuing.  The deputy and vet that went to check out the horses did nothing, other than tell the guy to worm his horses and fix up the shelter.  I’m sure the asshat has jumped right on that and those horses will be picking up weight in no time. 

NOT.

Crazy breeder down the road still had blankets on today, even though it was almost 70 degrees and sunny.  I guess the next deaths will be caused by a combination of starvation and heat stroke.  Perhaps if enough of them die she’ll eventually be down to a number that she can actually take care of.  That seems to be the only option since Tyler county has no one in authority that actually gives a flying fig.

In the good news section of the blog, these two horses were successfully rescued about two months ago.   They were skeletons then and still have a couple of hundred pounds to go.  The person that rescued them originally was having trouble handling them as they grew healthier and would really prefer a nice, well broke older horse instead of these two young hooligans.   He’s adopting Timmy in another few weeks and I picked up Lakota and Thunder from him yesterday. 

Thunder was a stallion when he was originally rescued and was just castrated about eight weeks ago.  Of course he and the mare had been turned out together before being rescued.  Ugh.  Let’s hope the Lutalyse shot works on Lakota better than it worked on Willow!

 

That’s most of Thunder above, and Lakota is below.  She’s going to be a stunning mare once she’s cleaned up and fatter.

 

 

These two are supposed to be fairly well broke trail horses, so once they’re back up to a healthy weight I’ll be getting on them for evaluation. 

I apologize for the crappy pictures.  I was trying to hold on to an excited and nervous Thunder and work the camera at the same time.  I wanted to get better pictures today, but it just never happened. 

 

Once I have better pictures of Lakota I’ll post about her over on Rescue Recoveries.  She’s a big mare and needs at least another 250lbs before she’s back up to where she should be.  Judging from what she looked like when she was originally rescued, she’s already put on about 200lbs!  Poor girl!
